One the saddest moments of my adolescence (although not quite as sad as being dumped by my 10th grade boyfriend) was the morning I woke up and realized that the Box was no longer present on my television.
I spent hour upon hours upon hours as a young teenager glued to my TV screen hoping that someone would request the three digit code for Orgy's "Blue Monday" or the Smashing Pumpkins "Ava Adore." My own mother wouldn't let me call to request videos, saying that the $1.99 was a rip-off, and I guess she had a point. Fortunately I had divorced parents with a father who pretty much let my sister and I spend money on whatever we wanted.
In this day of music channels that don't actually play music, the Box was something you could depend on. Not that I'm against music video channels playing other things- it's common knowledge that I love both "Rock of Love", "Tool Academy", "The Surreal Life", "Paris Hilton's My New BFF", "Flavor of Love, and so on and so forth. However, the Box was beautiful in its simplicity. Sometimes I just want to spend three hours hoping and playing that "Slide" by the Goo Goo Dolls is going to be requested. That's all I'm saying.
And so my campaign to bring back the Box begins. Anyone care to join me?
